Automobile: Students should be aware
of the issues and problems of bringing a private vehicle to Woods
Hole for the AQUAVET Program. Parking is at a premium on the
Marine Biological Laboratory
(MBL). Your automobile will likely be provided a permit that
will allow parking only in one of the satellite parking lots.
You are strongly encouraged to heed the information provided
in your AQUAVET Notebook that will be mailed to you in the spring, before
the course. If you do drive to Woods Hole, detailed instructions
are provided in your AQUAVET Notebook. Commercial Air: For those traveling by
commercial air, you are encouraged to fly through Logan
Airport in Boston, MA. The Bonanza
Bus Line provides a number of daily scheduled services from
Boston to Woods Hole.
The bus does stop at the terminal at Logan Airport and can provide
transportation to Woods Hole, arriving at the Woods Hole Ferry
Dock. This is a short walk to the Swope Center on the MBL campus.
This mode of transportation is a very convenient method, particularly
for students traveling a considerable distance. Trip time from
Logan Airport to Woods Hole is approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes,
depending on traffic. Amtrak: We have not had a great
deal of experience with students traveling by Amtrak.
However, there is Amtrak service to Boston. From the Boston Amtrak
Station (South Station) the Bonanza Bus can provide transportation
to Woods Hole. The South Station bus stop is actually the very
next stop the bus makes after the Logan Airport stop. From the
Amtrak Station the bus travels to Cape Cod and Woods Hole, making
a few stops along the way. As with students departing from the
airport, you will arrive in Woods Hole at the Woods Hole Ferry
Dock. A special comment regarding travel in 2002 and beyond..... Please be aware that circumstances
in the world may impact on travel, causing delays. Students should
plan accordingly. This may require that you arrange to travel
to Woods Hole on Saturday 17 May 2008 for the course that begins
on Sunday 18 May 2008, with the Orientation Meeting. If you must
arrive earlier than Sunday 18 May, you must contact the Director
of AQUAVET, so that special arrangements for your housing can
be made. Attending the Orientation Meeting at 3 pm on Sunday
18 May 2008 is extremely important and students should make their
travel plans accordingly. Your course notebook (to be sent
to students accepted to attend AQUAVET 2008) will provide information
regarding early arrivals and the procedure to secure housing
at the Swope Center. Housing at the Swope Center is often full,
so securing a room for an early arrival is something that should
be done as soon as the need is known. Have a safe trip and we look forward to seeing you in Woods Hole for AQUAVET 2008. |
